Feature Friday! What applications are offered inside of DARI’s software?

Tracking a person’s motion health through DARI is a journey, not just a test. So often we start at the first report and work through what it means for your work today. However, in an optimal setting DARI can and should be used to screen a person multiple times documenting a person’s progression through their motion health. A life time of screens and analyses. All of this is possible with DARI’s longitudinal analysis.

When a person has multiple screens you can work through the DARI connect software to produce reporting on data across different time windows and other qualifying measurables. In the example provided, you can review a how a person progressively recovered from left knee surgery.

Longitudinal analysis is at the heart of motion health and the DARI solutions.

All of this is currently available through DARI Motion.

DARI is FDA Cleared. What Does That Mean To You?

In the world of motion health, DARI believes you should provide safe and effective information. DARI proved this by attaining FDA clearance last year. This is our commitment to you regarding our quality. If you are going to use a device to track your motion health, why wouldn’t you expect that as a requirement?

DARI Health reference from the FDA:
https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/510k-clearances/march-2019-510k-clearances

For far too long companies that track human movement avoid any regulation. For some it is too complicated or costly and not worth the investment. While others know that their information does not meet the quality standards to pass review. In either situation, for your knowledge, remember that those companies do not prioritize their information efficacy or validation. They just want to sell you a system.

At DARI, we believe that our device should be used to track your motion health and have put in the diligent effort to be FDA cleared. We are proving to our community that we hold ourselves accountable to a higher standard; a standard that you should expect from a company tracking and monitoring your motion health.

When considering a technology for your needs look at what that company is doing to prove those points as facts, rather than just words spoken in a sales pitch.

Research Study: Validity of DARI Motion Capture System for Assessing Basketball Dunk Kinetics

This data provides strength and conditioning professionals with a better understanding of the magnitude of forces and powers that athletes experience during a basketball game, as well as validate use of a novel technology to monitor athletes’ progress and optimize overall athletic performance.

Based on the results obtained in the present case study, we conclude that the innovative 3-D MCS used in the study accurately assessed peak force and peak power during a basketball dunk. While the force plate served as the gold standard, the 3-D MCS allows greater freedom of movement, and the accompanying software produced rapid data analysis for peak force and peak power during the basketball dunk.

Vertical Jump – Calculating True Jump Height

In a biomechanical review, performance measurements can be gathered in a variety of different ways. Furthermore, different technologies can utilize different predictions to convert indirect measurements into direct predictors. In some cases it can be very strong, in others it can be misleading or even cheated. DARI offers solutions that can not be cheated.

During a vertical jump, often times jump height is a desired measurement for outcomes. This is a performance metric a variety of professionals would use in their understanding of this movement. If you use a force plate as your technology of choice, you will not directly measure jump height. You will have to predict it in different ways. One of those ways would be “flight time”. The time spent in the air can be converted to predict your jump height.

Knowing this is the direct measure, you find athletes (or people being tested) will artificially hike their legs (tuck) and allow their body to appear in flight longer than it would have during natural movement. This technique is an artificial way for the person being tested to improve their reported jump height.

These are ways to game the system to improve your performance.

With DARI, this is not possible. Collecting and analysing both kinematics and kinetics at the same time, DARI can utilize the best data for the analysis. In this situation, DARI measures jump height by the displacement of their center of mass (COM) based off their standing height. Removing all possible error measurements during vertical jump testing.

No need to coordinated arm swing
No need for subjects to tuck their legs.
No need for measurement set up for baseline jump start height.

Natural movement with no cheating.

Research Study: Correlations between perceived outcome and measured outcomes after Joint Replacement

Objective: Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery is being utilised in a younger, more active population with greater functional expectations. Understanding whether patient-perceived measures of function reflect objective biomechanical measures is critical in understanding whether functional limitations can be adequately captured within a clinical setting

In this biomechanics study, the relationship between changes in objective function and patient reported measures pre to post TKR surgery is stronger than in studies which did not include biomechanics metrics. Quality of movement may hold more significance for a patient’s perception of improvement than functional measures which consider only the time taken or distance travelled during functional activities.
